When making nutritional changes it is crucial to address emotional well-being. The American lifestyle is highly stressful which effects sleep, activity levels and diet. We sleep too little, are too sedentary, and eat 'convenient foods' on the go. Many people find they eat differently based on their mood. When we start addressing your health goals we will discuss how your emotional health is playing a role in your dietary habits.
Cravings play a critical role in understanding what your body needs and shouldn’t be ignored. Sometimes we we try to fill emotional cravings with food but as you may have found, this rarely ever works. We often feel worse after. I will guide you through identifying what the root of your cravings are and how to deconstruct them.
Many nutrition experts tell their clients what they can't eat and focus on counting calories, fat, carbohydrates and proteins. It's hard keeping track of all of this and explains why most diets fail. My approach is different – I focus on nutrients. I will never tell you you can't eat something. Together we will begin incorporating real foods (or foods that are close to their natural state) and you will find you no longer desire or have room for unhealthy foods. This is a concept known as 'crowding out'. This takes time but I will be guiding and supporting you along the way.
